Kellen's Surgery Day

Grandpa Cold Beer and Brayden shoveling snow so that they could park on the other side of the driveway. Grandpa wasn't really having fun, he says that's why he moved to out of the state of Kansas!

Surgery morning, they all had to be up and out the door before 5:30am for a 7:30 surgery time!!

Kellen did not like this robe, he fought it until the nurse finally gave in and let him take it off

He wasn't too happy.. he had a feeling that something was going on. He was very clingy and scared.

This is where they had to say Good-Bye, Mom says it was the hardest part of the day.

Schedule for the day... had to be there at 6am, surgery at 730am, procedure started at 830am, they gave us hourly updates, doctor came down at 1pm and said that everything was done and he had done great. We were able to walk with him from the recovery room to PICU. Then we had to wait in the PICU waiting room for another hour before we could really go see him. You could only have 2 people in PICU at a time... Mom didn't leave so Dad had to keep switching places with Grandma, Grandpa, and Aunt Pretty so everyone got to see him.

Kellen was pretty much out of it for awhile. You can see the swelling in his face already. It's amazing how round his head looks already. The doc said that he added an extra inch on each side of his head and expanded his forehead 2.5cm.

Drinking juice is a big step in PICU, he loved it but Mom didn't want him to drink too much.

I brought him the softest puppy I could find, and boy did he love it. The nurses were surprised that Kellen calmed down when they laid that puppy on him.

The first night in PICU was a little bit tough, he slept pretty well as long as the pain was under control. He would wake up out of discomfort then settle back down and sleep for another hour or so.
